GENDER EQUITY MECHANICS
By and for folks marginalized by bike culture due to their gender
We know that the traditional bike culture can feel exclusive and intimidating to those not in the dominant groups. As part of our mission to use bikes for social change, we have been hosting GEM programming for almost two decades.
But wait, what does that mean?
GEM programming is for women, girls, femmes, trans, non-binary, two spirit and gender-non-conforming folks who want to learn to fix their bike in a safe and non-judgmental environment.
Our primary GEM programs are: GEM Night, a once a month free drop-in night at the shop with Bikes Together mechanics who are female, femmes and thems. As well, we periodically host an affinity GEM 4-Part Mechanics Classes, comprised only of females, femmes and thems, also taught by BT female, femme or them mechanics.

Our 4-part Mechanics Series but specifically for GEM identifying students... and led by GEM Mechanics!

Our comprehensive 4-part Mechanics Series covers the basic systems of your bike including tubes/tires, brakes, shifting and gears, truing wheels and bearing systems

Learn to diagnose and repair the most common bike issues with supportive instructors and hands-on practice

4 classes total (same time weekly for 4 weeks), 2 hours each

BIKE REPAIR CLINICS IN YOUR COMMUNITY
Bikes Together brings bike repair to you!
Come visit us at various community events each summer, including your local Denver Public Library or Jefferson County Library branch (see flyers below for dates). Get a free 10-minute bicycle tune-up and learn basic bike maintenance skills with the help of our mechanics- right in your neighborhood! Bring your bike and be ready to learn.
Want to schedule a bike repair clinic at a community event? We prioritize:
We offer priority to neighborhoods and partners with little or no option for bike repair, including Lincoln/La Alma, Sun Valley, Westwood neighborhoods and other areas. Participants who want to learn about and fix their bike with support. Funding is helpful but not required!
If your event aligns with our priorities above (or if you're wondering whether it does), reach out to molly@bikestogether.org for more information. Please allow at least one month's notice is needed to plan events and gather volunteers.
