Bikes Together Is a nonprofit bike shop and community hub for equitable bike access and education. We are a space to ask questions, a resource to get or maintain a bike - no matter what your budget - and a place to build skills, knowledge, and community centered around bicycles.

SOCIAL CHANGE

WHO WE ARE

OUR VISION

We envision a world where bike access and education is equitable

and where Denverites are connected, curious, joyful, safe on bicycles,

and have agency over their own transportation.

WHAT WE DO

BIKES TOGETHER'S COMMITMENT: Every person in Denver who needs or wants a bike, gets a safe, reliable one, knows how to repair it, and has a community where they belong. We do this through up-cycling, repurposing and recycling bikes, within a social enterprise model by providing:

CRITICAL TRANSPORTATION. Affordable transportation, safe bikes and maintenance skills for all who need them to meet basic needs

ACCESS + COMMUNITY. Welcoming community, with a daily practice to upend the exclusionary mindsets steeped in all aspects of the dominant bike culture

ENVIRONMENT + HEALTH. We build a healthier city and healthier community members, while diverting tons from landfill every month

SUSTAINABLE FUNDING MODEL. We are a lean social enterprise with a remarkable social return on your charitable dollar investment.

OUR DNA

SAFETY. Both on the roads and in our shops, we want people to be

comfortable riding their bikes and accessing our programs.

PERSONAL WELLNESS. Bicycling improves the body and the mind.

ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH. Bicycles emit infinitely less CO2 than cars both in production and use.

CREATING COMMUNITY. We seek a bike universe based on togetherness,

inclusiveness, and building relationships.

SUSTAINABILITY. Our Vision is for the long term; keeping people on bikes,

recycling and re-purposing donated bicycles.

DIVERSITY. Bikes Together strives to create access to bikes and bicycle maintenance for all by acknowledging and addressing barriers communities face within bicycling.

EQUITY. We strive to create equitable access to bicycles, education, and

community through our programs and our welcoming shop culture.

EDUCATION. We understand the power of knowledge. Our goals and our success

are built on education. Educated cyclists are empowered cyclists!

SELF-SUFFICIENCY. People with knowledge are self-motivated, better

community members, and future teachers.

FUN!. Bicycles are inherently fun, but we use that to make

learning fun and our community a good place to be.

OUR STORY

Bikes Together, formerly The Bike Depot, is a 501(c)(3) based in the La Alma Lincoln Park neighborhood.

Bikes Together's origins date back to the mid-1990s when a group of residents created the Park Hill Bike Club. These residents wanted to use bicycles to create alternatives to youth gang involvement and substance misuse while promoting a culture of friendship, mutual respect, and diversity and offering recreational, educational, and employment opportunities for youth. In 2005, LiveWell Colorado's Park Hill Thriving Communities began endeavors to lessen the health disparities that existed in Park Hill and began the process of taking the bike club idea one step further. They helped by organizing community leaders, forging partnerships, investing funds and securing in-kind donations, and established The Bike Depot's shop in 2008.

In 2016 Bikes Together opened a second location in the La Alma/Lincoln Park neighborhood near 11th and Osage. In 2021, we consolidated our public-facing operations to this location.

Since opening day, Bikes Together has gone from an intermittently open shop to the fully staffed (by paid employees and volunteers), full service bike shop that offers space, classes, bicycles, parts, recycling, and community. We have grown partnerships with public, private and nonprofit agencies, expanded programming specifically by and for populations historically excluded from bike culture (especially women, transgender & femme people of all races and Black, Indigenous and People of Color of all genders), and grown the number of bicycles we recover, recycle, repair, refurbish and return to the streets, all while empowering a new generation of Denverites to fix and renew things instead of throwing them away.

"I want to get a bike!"

We sell used bikes at various price points, through different programs.

Check it out below or visit us and explore which is the best option for you!

Buy A Refurbished Bicycle

These bikes start as a donated bicycle. Our professional mechanics spend 5-8 hours replacing all the wearable parts so they ride like new! These bikes are priced at $450-700. We stand behind our work, so all refurbished bikes come with a 90-day warranty.

Stop by the shop to see what we have in stock.

Get an As-Is Bicycle

Our sidewalk bikes are a suggested price of $75-200, and the price is cost-flexible same day. All of our sidewalk bikes are high-quality, but need some repairs and some love; we can help you fix them during our Learn & Repair programming for suggested donation! If you need a bike for low or no cost, make a Learn & Repair appointment and we will get you one of these bikes to work on for as little as $0.
