Gender Equality Mechanics (GEM)* 4-Part Mechanics Series for transgender, women, intersex, and genderqueer people! Students of this 4-Part Mechanics Series will learn everything from general bicycle maintenance to in-depth mechanics, and all about the internal workings of the systems of the bicycle. Our curriculum has been updated for Summer 2025 to include tubeless tire considerations, as well as hydraulic brake adjustments (please note: you will NOT learn how to bleed hydraulic brakes in this class.)

  • *This class is specifically for folks who are marginalized by bike culture due to their gender. Wait, what does that mean?! That means this class is for women, trans folks of all identities, girls, gender-non-conforming folks, and femmes of all stripes.

All classes include hands-on practice and exploration with instruction from our talented, knowledgeable and lovable instructors. All skill levels are welcome. Students will leave with increased confidence to use, maintain and repair their own bikes -- and the bikes of their friends and neighbors, too -- and get or stay connected with this welcoming and collaborative bicycle community in Denver.

  • The series costs $300 per person.

  • Classes will be held at the Mariposa Shop: 1060 Osage St. in Denver.

  • 2 hours, once a week for 4 weeks. 8 students max per series.

  • No prior mechanical experience necessary! We provide tools, supplies, and bicycles for demo and practice.

  • Masks appreciated but not required. The space includes chairs for sitting, an ADA bathroom, hand-washing station, gloves and aprons, and a HEPA filter.

4-Part Bicycle Mechanics Series Schedule:

Class 2: Brake types, including mechanical and hydraulic disc brakes, and Cables

Class 3: Derailleurs, Shifting and Chains
